Jon Friedman's Media Web: Sorry, Google is NOT a media company - Media - Opinion

Jon Friedman's Media Web: Sorry, Google is NOT a media company - Media - Opinion

Double double-talk about Google. Friedman's head is spinning around. He is arguing about definitions and missing the future. When cars were first invented, they were seen as obnoxious toys--not transportation. Few could imagine that they would eventually replace the horse and buggy. Laws were passed to prohibit driving them inside town limits!

Printed news papers are one of today's horse and buggies. In financial reviews of the New York Times, owning a newsprint facility is listed as one of the advantages over other newspapers. Again, the equivalent of saying a buggy maker in 1919 has an advantage over the other buggy makers because it owns a wheel spoke maker.

Google is not the largest media company by a long shot. It is not even as large as TWX; TWX supports 56 billion dollars of debt that Google does not have. Never-the-less, if anything close to current rates of growth continue, Google will be the largest media company in just a few years. Don't put all your eggs in a Google basket but don't be afraid to put a small Google egg in your basket. Put your small Google egg next to small Yahoo and EBAY eggs. You may be surprised how big the golden goose eggs can get.

BUY THE BULL!
